"became the 7th Lord Scrope of Bolton and was a knight of the
Bath at the coronation of Henry VIII. The records tell us that
he fought at the battle of Flodden in 1513 with a company of
Wensleydale archers and he also had a contemporary poem written
about him. Henry had five children, the first four died in
childhood. John was the last born and he inherited his father's
title as 8th Lord Scrope of Bolton."

William Sanders "A New River Heritage" Volume II. One of the
most prominent families in this wide area, was that of Thompson,
who married into the other oldest settlement families. John
Thompson (son of Thomas Thompson), was born in Englad about
1700, and came first to Philadelphia and then relocated to what
is now Monroe County on the upper branch of Rich Creek. His sons
were John, Robert, and William, with Robert being the founder of
the Island Creek Thompson's.

I, Robert Thompson, of the County of Chesterfield; I lend and
leave unto my dear and loving wife Sarah [Farley], during her
life and widowhood my Estate real and personal; after the death
or marriage of my wife I give unto my son Robert 200 acres of
land and 1 Negro; to son Peter 1 Negro man; to son John Farley
one Negro man; to daughter Sarah one Negra woman; to daughter
Elizabeth one Mulattoe; to daughter Mary 1 Negro boy; to son
William the lower part of my land at Swift Creek, 200 acres and
one Negro man; to daughter Martha the remaining land at Swift
Creek, 226 acres and 2 Negros and 12 head of cattle; to son
Drury 250 acres of land, part of the tract I now live on and 1
Negro man; to son Isham 309 acres, being the Plantation whereon
I now live and 1 Negro man.
Wife Sarah and son Isham executors.
Witnesses: Benjamin Horner, John Stewart and Ezekiel Sudbury. No
