Waller Taylor
TAYLOR, Waller, senator, born in Lunenburg county, Virginia,
before 1786; died in Lunenburg, Virginia; 26 August, 1826. He
received a common-school education, studied law, served one or
two terms in the Virginia legislature as the representative of
Lunchburg county, and settled in Vincennes, Indiana, in 1805,
having been appointed a territorial judge. He served as
aide-de-camp to General William H. Harrison at the battle of
Tippecanoe, and in the war of 1812-'15. On the admission of
Indiana, as a state he was elected United States senator, and at
the close of his term was re-elected, serving from 12 December,
1816, till 3 March, 1825.
