"This is Rice Hooe III, or Col. Rice Hooe. He "located on the Potomac River in King George County, Virginia, where, at Hooe's Ferry, he patented land and named his place "Barnesfield." In 1715, he built a large brick house. The name of Rice Hooe could be seen over the door near the garden, with the date of its erection, 1715. This place was ruthlessly destroyed by Federal soldiers at night in 1861, in midwinter, with the family barely escaping in their night clothes." He served as Burgess from Stafford County, 1699 and 1703-05, and is mentioned as a justice, July 10, 1700, and June 11,1712. He patented 1100 acres in Stafford on October 1, 1694, and held many other land grants. His land along the Potomac River provided a landing for the ferry which operated "from Colonel Rice Hooe's to Cedar Point in Maryland."

Thomson5 Mason (George4, George3, George2, George1) was born in Gunston Hall Plantation, Fairfax Co., Va. March 4, 1759. Thomson died March 11, 1820 in Fairfax Co., Va., at 61 years of age. He married Sarah McCarty Chichester 1784.

v. George William Mason was born May 4, 1791.
vi. Sarah Chichester Mason was born 1792. Sarah died 1820 at 28 years of age. Dates from Margaret Riely Brannen, b. ca. 1800
vii. Richard Chichester Mason was born May 7, 1793.
viii. John Mason was born 1797. John died October 26, 1820 at 23 years of age.
