Thomas J Higginbotham enlisted in the CSA on Jan 20, 1863. He served in Co E, 2nd Virginia Calvary, under Col Thomas A Munford. He was wounded by a canister shot while charging a battery in the cavalry engagement at Kelly's Ford; he was also in the fight at Hawes Shop. He also participated in the celebrated Valley campaign under General Stonewall Jackson. He was one of the few survivors of Jackson's brigade.

I recently found that William Vassall and his brother Samuel were original members of the Massachusets Bay Colony. He came he originally in 1630 and brought his family on the Blessing in 1635. The Winthrope Society has some information on him. William's father - John Vassall, outfitted two ships and captained them against the Spanish Armada. Sincerely, Margaret Alverson
