GEN. CHARLES RIDGELY CARNAN, (5--1), of "Hampton," Baltimore Co., Md., which estate he inherited by the will of his uncle, Capt. Charles Ridgely, upon the condition of his taking the name of Charles Carnan Ridgely. He was b. Dec. 6, 1760; d.July 17, 1829; grew to manhood under the name of Carnan; in 1790,by special act of the Legislature, he became Charles Carnan Ridgely, and thus he is known in history. He took an active interest in all affairs of State; served with distinction in the' Revolutionary War, and as a member of Continental Congress; and as Governor of Maryland from 1815 to 1818; was a devout and liberal supporter of the Methodist Church;


m. Oct. 17, 1782, Priscilla Dorsey, b. July 12, 1762; dau. of Caleb and Priscilla (Hill) Dorsey, of "Belmont." Issue:

6--7. Priscilla Hill Dorsey Ridgely, b. March 17, 1796; m. May 23, 1820, Stevenson White, d. Feb. 11, 1826, and had issue.
6--8. Eliza Ridgely, b. May 24, 1797; m. Harry Dorsey Gough Carroll, son of James and Sophia (Gough) Carroll.
