He was a prefessional soldier, receiving his first commission in
the KY. Militia as a Lieutenant in 1809. He also received
another commission in 1811 from the state of KY.
From "The Family History of Carl Leroy EUBANK": "On 1 Apr 1790
Hubbard TAYLOR led a party which included James EUBANK and
Family to KY. arriving 13 May 1790. Their route was from
Caroline Co. VA. to the Shenandoah Valley thence up the Great
Philadelphia Wagon Road (the best road in America at the time,
paved with crushed limestone) today's I-81 to Chambersburg, PA.
where they took the road to Bedford, PA. Here, they took FORBES
Road later called the "Pennsylvania Road", close to today's
PA.Tunrpike). It was built in 1758 to enable the British and
American forces to capture Fort Duquesne. It ran west from
Bedford to Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, it was fit for pack
animals only and when they came to Brownsville on the
Monongahela River, they took rafts. They floated down the
Monongahela to where it joined the Allegheny to form the Ohio.
They continued on down the Ohio to Maysville, KY. where they
went ashore and took to horse, proceeding to Springhill in
Fayette Co. which later became Clark Co. In his words : "We set
out on the first day of April 1790, came by way of Brownsville
on the Monongahela, down that river and the Ohio to Limestone,
now Maysville, in company with Mr. James EUBANK and family, who
married my eldest sister, Lucy. At this time, I had three
children living, Mildred, Lucy and Hubbard. We arrived at our
new home the 13th of May 1790, found about 6 acres of land
opened, some cabins and the whole of a house without a chimney,
floor or door." So far, no record has been found to indicate
that James or Lucy owned any land in KY. or property of any
sort. It is quite possible that James acted as Hubbard's
plantation manager at Springhill, near present day Winchester,
as Hubbard was often away on family business. There is no record
of any pension applied for by either James or Lucy for his
service in the Revlutionary War. There is, however, ample
evidence that he served in the Virginia Militia through DAR
records which mention his rank as Lt. It is possible that his
time in the militia was not sufficient to earn a pension, or
they did not feel the need for one. Some indication of James'
wealth is that he is listed as a bondsman in a will in Fayette
Co. KY. In the Will of Capt. William ELLIS dated 28 Apr 1804 in
Fayette Co. KY. James T. EUBANK, is entered into as bond with
James PARRISH as their securities in the penal sum of 3,000
pounds. With this in mind, it can be reasonably assumed that
James and Lucy were well off, if not rich. The date of death of
James and Lucy is unknown. However, James T. EUBANK, the son of
James and Lucy, was frequently traveling to Clark Co. throughout
1812 and 1813 from Newport, KY. presumably to visit his parents,
as his wife's family were from the Newport area and he resided
in Newport up to his death in 1814. James Taylor EUBANK was born
in VA. in 1787/88 and he died in Newport, KY. 7 Dec 1814. He was
a prefessional soldier, receiving his first commission in the
KY. Militia as a Lieutenant in 1809. He also received another
commission in 1811 from the state of KY.
Sometime between 22 Aug 1812 and 27 Nov 1812, when James T.
EUBANK was appointed Deputy Quartermaster, he joined President
William Henry HARRISON's Army."

Have found many, many ancestors in your database, i.e. Taylor,
Thornton, etc. My Great Grandmother married Arthur Eubank,
grandson of James Taylor Eubank. He was the son of Lucy Ann
Taylor. Thanks for all your work. How accurate is your data?
Is it based on fact or family history. Thanks again, Chuck

Although Camden was the British camp of Lord Cornwallis and
remained a Tory stronghold, Zachariah Nettles, Nancy Scofield’s
husband, was said to have served in the Revolution on behalf of
the Colonists. We are unsure of Phillip’s sympathies.
Joseph Coffell (note 2), a self-styled backcountry Tory Colonel
is believed to be his son. We aren’t sure if Phillip and Rachel
travelled to Spanish East Florida with Joseph Coffell like many
in the Camden region. Perhaps Phillip was pro-Revolution, like
many of his neighbours and son-in-laws."
"In 1735, our first Phillip Schofield appears in South Carolina.
He may have come to the Colony, with the Reverend William
Turbeville, the Episcopal minister from North Carolina. We
aren’t sure where Phillip was born or where he married. Our
first Phillip Schofield (Scofuld) appears with wife Rachel, in
the register book of the old Prince Frederick Episcopal Church
of Old Craven County. By 1753, he and wife Rachel, are baptising
two daughters on 2 June, 1753, Sarah Scofield born 3 June, 1750
and Elizabeth Scofield born 26 April 1752 at St Mark’s Parish.
There were no entries after 1753 at St Mark’s Parish, but by
that time Kershaw County had a township on the westside of the
Watersee River known as West Wateree."

John T. Scott married Elizabeth Amelia (or Amelia Elizabeth)
McGill on 27 Apr 1826, according to a site at Rootsweb's
WorldConnect project. I have looked at some of the info on
Amelia Elizabeth McGill and her ancestors that is posted at
various places on the internet. I've also seen a lot of info on
Scotts from Williamsburg Co., and have looked at all census info
I could find on them back to 1800.
I have found John T. Scott on the 1830, 1840 (he is the
enumerator for the county), 1850, and 1860 Williamsburg Co.
censuses. The information for his family as shown on the 1850
census is as follows:
John T. Scott, 50, b. SC
Amelia, 42, b. SC
Elizabeth, 22, SC
Samuel A., 19, SC
William R. (my ggg grandfather), 18, SC
Mary A., 16, SC
Martha M., 13, SC
Sarah J., 10, SC
James B., 4, SC
Caroline Lowry, 17, SC
I believe that William R. Scott migrated to Ouachita and/or
Hempstead Co.,
Arkansas prior to 1860 with his McGill aunts and uncle. The 1860
Hempstead Co.,
AR census shows William Scott, his wife Sarah, and daughter
Emma (my gg
grandmother) living in the same household as A.J. Murphy and his
wife Mary A. McGill, and Elisha Bell and his wife Amelia
Burgess. They are living immediately next door to Minto McGill
and his wife Sarah, and their children Clarence, Mary A., and
Minto.
I believe that John T. Scott and his family did not migrate to
Arkansas until late 1860 or later, as the family is shown on the
Murray's Ferry, Williamsburg Co. SC census dated 4 Sep. 1860.
The family is comprised of John T. Scott, E.A. (Elizabeth
Amelia), S. A. (Samuel Addison), M.M., S.T., J.B., and M. E.
Woodberry, who I believe must be a granddaughter. I wonder if
John T. Scott and Amelia had a daughter named Jennet, as I have
seen a reference to this bit of info.
I am trying to find out who the father of John T. Scott is. A
fellow researcher of the Arkansas Scotts has received info from
others stating that John T. Scott is from a clan of Kentucky
Scotts, which I suppose is possible, but all census info shows
John T. Scott being born in SC and not KY.
Also, I would like to find out the name of my ggg grandmother
Sarah, who married William Robert Scott. I have no idea if they
married in SC or AR. Sarah was born abt. 1830 in SC, according
to 1860 and 1880 census info. The children of William Robert
Scott and Sarah Unknown are Emma A. Scott, b. 1860 in Camden,
Ouachita Co., AR, d. 1939, Howard Co., AR; she married Melvin
Clare Pope.
Her brothers are Erwin E. Scott, Samuel A. Scott, Junius W.
Scott, and B.A. Scott. I have info on the brothers, but am
trying to keep this message somewhat brief. ha ha.
I hope I've supplied enough info to show you where I'm at on
this family. I'd love to hear from anyone interested in this
family group. I'm willing to share what I've found so far, and
would sure like to learn a lot more.
Thanks for your time."
