From Penn Pals; Vol. Issue 3 Page 4 by Frances K. Leahy 6629
West 87th St. Los Angeles, CA 90045 Most records show the first
wife as Elizabeth Douglas. However, Mrs J. F. Murphy, 649
Lockwood Court, St. Louis, MO 63119 has the following
information which may help correct this matter: Both Mary and
Sarah Lee were daughters of William and Rachel Lea of Amelia
Co., VA. William Lea left a will dated 6/18/1770 in the parish
of Nottoway, Amelia Co. VA. In this will he mentions daughters
Sarah Penn and Mary Walden.
There was a son, John Lee, who evidently did not marry as he
left his estate to his brothers and sisters. John Lee's will
proved in Charlotte Co. Va. 1/6/1783. In it John mentions
sisters Sarah Penn and Mary Waldon. So it is evident Sarah did
marry a Penn and indicates George Penn's first wife was Sarah
Lee.
George Penn's only sister, Frances Penn married Ambrose Lee,
oldest son of William and Rachel Lea. .....Family tradition
says that George Penn did marry the Lee sisters and dates and
places and family connections fit perfectly. This is stated in
Albert E. Casey's book 'Amite Co., Miss., Vol 111, Lea family of
K & Q Co. VA, Caswell Co. NC, and Amite Co. MS. This is also
stated in 'The Bennets of VA & NC (main reference "Finding your
forefathers in America" by Archibald F. Bennett) This belief is
held by at least two other people who have studied the Penn and
Lee lines rather thoroughly with whom I've had correspondence. -
Mrs. J. F. Murphy of St. Louis 1975 Note; The new Centennial DAR
index Sarah and Mary Lee to this George Penn and no longer gives
Elizabeth Douglas as his wife.

The spelling of the name Lea changed to "Lee" when William Lea,
son of John and Ann had established it via his children. He
continued to spell his own name as "Lea" but spelled his
children's names as "Lee." William's will was written in
Amelia County, VA.
William Lea was not of age when his parents, John and Ann Lea
died. He chose Thomas Carruthers, his stepfather, as guardian.
In the same year, however, he later dropped his stepfather as
guardian and chose Zachary Taylor, a cousin and a lawyer, as his
guardian. Zachary Taylor, the Presdent's grandfather,
represented William throughout the litigations between Thomas
Carruthers and the Lea children.
A researcher hasWilliam that m. Francis White as their son and
that he died Hyco Creek, Person Co, NC in 1804.

Funerals of Charles VII are celebrated on August 8, 1461 . Louis
XI will not assist to with it.
Louis XI puts an end to the Middle Ages, attaches to the crown
of France Burgundy and Picardy, Anjou, Maine and the kingdom of
Provence. He holds his kingdom of firm hand.
However, feeling the end to approach, Louis XI withdraws itself
in his castle of Plessis-lès-Turns. It plunges in U devotion
excessive. It dies on August 30 1483 of a stroke."

Fearing assassination, he spent his last years in virtual
self-imprisonment near Tours. He was succeeded by his son,
Charles VIII. Bibliography See writings of a contemporary,

"Louis XI (1461-1483) "Last sovereign of the Middle Ages and
principal craftsman of modern France, Louis XI was among the
kings who made France, to only declare " citizen of Turns ".
Wire of Charles VII , " small king de Bourges ", and from Marie
of Anjou, the future " king tourangeau " was born in Bourges in
1423. Placed two years later, by safety, in the fortress of
Loaches , it was eight years old when Jeanne d' Arc stopped
there, after the victory gained in Orleans over the English. In
1433, the Louis young person left Loches to be established in
Amboise , where, thirteen years old, it married Marguerite of
Scotland, two years its junior.
Having then followed his father in several forwardings, the heir
to the throne soon in charge of various missions, then was made
general lieutenant for Languedoc. The future Louis XI
contributed to pare the English out of France: their giving the
attack, in 1441 in Dieppe.
