"Sherwood and his family came to Lunenburg County on 6 June 1752, the part that became Mecklenburg County in 1765. He purchased land on this date on the south side of the Roanoke River.

Sherwood and his family migrated to Saint Paul's Parish, Richmond County, GA in 1768, where they settled on Rock Creek. He and his three oldes sons received land grants from the King of England. They also owned property in SC.

Commanded a company in Col. James Jackson's regiment. He was taken prisoner and his home on Beech Island, South Carolina, where his wife nursed the wounded, was often raided by the British and Tories. It is believed that Sherwood was freed and shortly after died at his Richmond County home.

LDS Ancestral File says he died 1772.

"Captain Sherwood Bugg was captured by English soldiers and taken to a prison ship at the mouth of the Savannah River. Near the close of the war he was released. Starved and sick he managed to get home and died in a few days." - From Bugg book"
