"Receipt reads: Orange County 23rd of Aug, 1780, Received of John Vivion 470# of beef.


Received a land grant for 1550 acres in Fayette Co., KY (now Clark Co., KY) from Gov. Patrick Henry on 2 February 1782. Was a patriot during the Revolutionary War. He supplied beef for the Army. The land grant was located on the waters of the "Four Mile Creek." Ref. Deed B20, p. 261 Orange Co., VA 23 July 1791, DAR Vol. 92, p. 243. In the Book VA Landgrants on p. 132 the grants are described as 838 acres and 712 acres in Fayette Co. They are in Book 4, VA Gen. Was active member of Christ Church, Middlesex Co., VA. Appointed to first grand jury of Orange Co., VA. Married wealthy lady (Gholson). Land and slave owner. Served Orange Co., VA Militia. Organized petitions to the House of Burgesses. Referred to as gentlemen in legal documents. Colonel was honorary title. Began to break away from the church Quit claim Deed #4537100 and 630."
