Charles and Mary Blount had 2 children, one of whom was Ebenezer
Pettigrew (1783-1848), who served in the NC Legislature and in
the U.S. Congress. Ebenezer married on May 17, 1815 to Ann
Blount Shepard (1795-1830), daughter of William Shepard and Mary
Blount of Newborn NC.

Description of the Collection
Records in this collection detail plantation and town life in
the Carolinas. Four generations of the Pettigrew family carved
three plantations out of the swampy lands between Lake Phelps
and the Scuppernong River in Washington and Tyrrell counties,
North Carolina. Other relatives lived in New Bern and Raleigh,
North Carolina, and in Charleston and the Abbeville District,
South Carolina.
