Fayette Co. IL Census: 1830, 1840 and age 69 in 1850. He was taxed 1804-18 in Jessamine Co. KY; taxed for 3 horses belonging to his son Thomas A. He moved to Fayette Co. IL abt 1829 (Deed bk 2 p. 164 Fayette Co. KY). On 1 Nov 1826, Thomas R. declared he had no claim on property acquired by his son Thomas, who lived in his....& which was stored at his home & also in Henry Co.


GSA National Archieves & Rec. Wash. DC - Thomas R. Gatewood entered the service on 18 Aug 1812 for 6 months, served until 1 Jan 1813. Bounty land requests of Thomas R. 9 Nov 1850 (age 69) stated he was a Sgt. in co. commanded by Capt. S. W. McGowan in 5th Reg. of KY. Vol. commanded by Col. Lewis. He volunteered about 12 Aug 1812, served 5 months & was honorably discharged at Ft. Defiance, Mich. 12 Jan 1813.


On May 1855, Thomas R., age 75 res of Fayette Co. IL stated he was a pvt in a company commanded by Capt. Stewart McGowan in Reg. of KY. Vol. commanded by Col. Lewis in war with Great Brittain. He volunteered at Lexington abt 18 Aug 1812 & served 6 months, was honorably discharged at Ft. Defiance about 14 Feb 1813. He was granted land.


History of Fayette Co. IL & Biographical Sketches by Brink McDonough & co. p. 87: Melenda Melott, Thomas A. Gatewood & Thomas R. Gatewood settled in Otego Twp in 1829. Fayette Co. IL (Bk A p. 379) 7 July 1831, Thomas A. Gatewood received homestead gound, also on 4 Feb 1837 & 30 Sept 1837. [S125]
