John was living in St. Martin's Parish, Louisa Co. VA on 31 Oct 1761 and afterwards lived in Spotsylvania Co. VA. He received several gifts of land in St. George Parish from his parents in 1761 and 1766 and he made many gifts to his children in 1794 and 1797.

John became the father of Sarah Graves 1777. John Graves had the following children:
i. Susannah7 Graves. Susannah married John Jackson in Albemarle County, Virginia, November 11, 1799. John died 1842 in Albemarle County, Virginia. (See John Jackson for the continuation of this line.) Susannah gave birth to Nancy Jackson 1800.


ii. Sarah Graves was born 1777. Sarah died January 16, 1857 in Albemarle County, Virginia, at 79 years of age. Sarah married John Toms in Albemarle County, Virginia, April 22, 1792. (See John Toms for the continuation of this line.) At 20 years of age Sarah gave birth to Smithson Toms 1797. At 21 years of age Sarah gave birth to Aseana Toms 1798. "Thomas Prewitt, Sr. was born ca. 1693 in Henrico Co., Va. and died ca. 1759 in Halifax Co., Va. He married ca. 1719 to Mary Chastain Durcray born ca. 1680 died bef. 1752. Mary was the daughter of Peter Chastain and the widow of Nicholas Durcray, Sr. Nicholas and Mary transported to America on the ship "The Nassau" in 1699. They had two sons, Nicholas, Jr. and Jean. Thomas and Mary settled futher up the James River from his father's land at Almond Creek, in Goochland Co., which was formed from Henrico Co. In 1837, Thomas brough land on Stock's Creek, Amelia Co., Va. and lived there until his move to southern Va. on Catawba Creek in Lunenburg Co., Va. which later became Halifax Co."
