"Do you have any evidence that he was born in South Carolina?
We think he might have come from Massachusetts. We think he had
a brother named Thompson Phillips, note that Judge James had a
son named Thompson. We think that there was a Thompson family
who married into the Phillips family, and my research is leading
me to investigate the family of James Phillips and Rebecca
Brooks of Springfield, MA. He was born in 1727. His father was
James Phillips who married Elizabeth Leonard. At this point, I
get conflicting views but I believe that his father was George
Phillips b. 1656 who married Margaret Thompson. We think that
George was the son of Jonathan Phillips and an unknown woman.
Jonathan stayed at home with his mother until he was 47, so if
George is his son, there might have been another wife? Jonathan
Phillips was the son of Rev. George Phillips… "
