In the lifetime of his father, he was involved in the wars with
France. From 14 August 1362 to 20 January 1366 he was summoned
to parliament as "John de Mowbray of Axholme". In 1368 he fell
in a conflict with the Turks near Constantinople, on his way to
the Holy Land, having assumed the cross and embarked on the
Crusade.
He had two sons John and Thomas, and several daughters of whom
three have known careers.

la Warr, iv m John, Lord Welles and v. Anne became Abbess of
Barking."
