It was a practice of Mercian kingship to grant religious communities in Kent and the kingdom of Hwicce rather than the main Mercian province. Another royal kinsmen of AEthelred was Penwalk, the father of St. Guthlac. Another saint, St. Mildburgh (c1080-90), daughter of Merewalk and the Kentish Princess, Eormenburb, was neice to King AEthelred. She was the abbess of Minster-in-Thanet. AEthelred's wife was Osthryth, a Northumbrian princess (and daughter of Offa). Osthryth was sister to King Ecgfrith.

Lewis was jailed in Fredricksburg,Virginia for preaching without a license from the Church of Virginia. Later led "The Travelling Church" on the Wilderness Road into Kentucky in 1781.

Lewis Craig was deeded 276 acres in Spotsylvania Co. in 6/1760 by his parents. Converted (from Church of England) by David Thomas, he was baptized into Upper Spotsylvania Church in 1767 and ordained 1770, serving as minister of this first Separate Baptist Church established between the James and Rappahannock Rivers. (This church, known also as Craig's Church, was at Paytes, VA) He was jailed in Fredericksburg in 1768 for preaching without a license from the Episcopal Church. He preached through the bars to crowds gathered around the jail, to the great discomfiture of public officials. Family tradition says he was defended at his trial by Patrick Henry. He is celebrated on a plaque on the Baptist Church in Fredericksburg. He and the other Baptist began petitioning for religious freeman and abolishing of slavery in 1770. In 1781 he led the Upper Spotsylvania "traveling church" of about 400 (others say 600) persons, slaves, and livestock some 600 miles west and three months' journey (stopping to sing hymns and pray every hour) to Kentucky through the Cumberland Gap (establishing a church on the Holsten River en route), having purchased land from discharged soldiers. They stopped in Dec. at Craig's Station on the Dix River; 600 are said to have been in the party when they left in the spring.The Craigs were prominent in the defense of Bryan Station against a band of 500 Indians on August 15 17, 1782 and are listed on a monument there. He settled at Craig's Station on Gilberts Creek in Garrard Co., moved to Fayette Co. and the South Elkhorn church under 1792, then lived in Minerva in Mason Co. until his death, pastoring and building a substantial church. He established a number of churches and worked also as a stonemason or architect. He built the first church, the first school house, and the first courthouse (in Washington) in Kentucky. He was said to have had a musical voice, placid disposition, and a speculative turn of mind. He was very philanthrophic, doing much to assist families settling on farms in Kentucky. John Taylor said "As an expositor of the Scriptures, he was not very skillful, but dealt closely with the heart. He was better acquainted with men than with books. He never dwelt much on doctrine, but mostly on experimental and practical godliness...perhaps there was never found in Kentucky, so great a gift of exhortation as in Lewis Craig." Spencer says he was "of middle statue, rather stoop shouldered, his hair black, thick set, and somewhat curled, a pleasant countenance, free spoken, and his company very interesting, a great peace maker among contending parties."

Noah was a farmer, an Ox team driver, and a Baptist Minister. They moved from Reed's Valley, Virginia after 1860 to Carter Co., Kentucky, to get out ot the "path" of the Civil War. Of his sixteen Children, only two remained in Virginia; his daughters Margaret and Malissa. Margaret was married to Joseph Augustus Kiser,(son of Ephriam 1790). Joseph was a Baptist Minister. Malissa Married Hiram Ashbrook. They lived in Clintwood, Russell Co., Virginia. When Noah arrived in Kentucky, he probably came down the trail of the Big Sandy River, through Louisa (Ky) and to Grayson (Ky). When they arrived at Pactolus, north of Grayson, they came across the Little Sandy Riner at the Pactolus Falls where a rock ledge made it possible to cross the river. They they proceeded to the Rupert's bottom, about one and one half miles west and settled there for about 5 years. The place is now owned (1996) by Edna Womack, descendant of the Rupert Family. The Lindsye Community Center is located there. About 1867, Noah moved from the Rupert bottoms because of poor water quality and purchased a farm northwest of the Carter Cave State Park, in the Oakland Ridge Area. His farm was located at the head of Kiser Hollow. He built a log home with a loft and kitchen wing. The old fire place chimney made of huge rocks is still (1996) standing. The Kiser family cemetery is on up the hill from the Kiser home. A grave marker was placed on Noah's and Dice's grave by the Noah Kiser Family in the 1980s. Orvil Kiser, born 1910, grand son of Jim Kiser, took Frank and Howard Kiser to the Kiser home place. The noah Kiser family farm was purchased by the Carter Caves State Park in 1944. It is now part of the state park and joins the Tygart State Forest.
Noah and Dicie had 16 children, all born in Russell Co., Virginia. Noah is buried on the Kiser Farm, Oakland Ridge, Kiser Hollow, Carter County, Kentucky.
