His youngest son, Beilby Porteous (born in York, England, May,
1731), on May 14, 1808, became Bishop of Chester (see Chambers'
Biographical Dictionary). Elizabeth (Jenings) Porteous was
buried at St. Martin's, Cony St., York, England (Jening's
pedigree, N. Y. Curio). In the Cathedral, Ripon, there is an
inscription on the wall to the memory of Col. Robert Porteous."

AUTH Anthony R. Wagner. This pedigree is taken, by kind
permission of the New Your
Genealogical and Biagraphical Society, from an article on "The
Queen of England's American Ancestry and Cousinship to
Washington and Lee", by Anthony R. Wagner, Portcullis Pursuivant
of the College of Arms, which appeared in the Society's
"Record".
The Queen's American ancestry comes of Burgesses in Virginia,
returned to England and died there. His first wife, Mildred
Smith, was a niece of Mildred Warner, the grandmother of George
Washington. The common ancestor of the Queen and Robert E. Lee
is Colonel Augustine Warner the elder, the first of that family
to settle in Virginia. Through this, her Majesty
is fifthe cousin four times removed to Lee.
