Notes

Date: 3 Oct 2002 From: "Therese"
To: [email protected] Subject: Whitely family
"Hi Josie. I saw your messages on the Rootsweb Whitely family message board and thought we could compare notes. My information is that I descend from William Whitely of Loudoun Co., VA through his son, Arthur Wheatley, b. 1775, d. 1841 in Perry County, IN., which is right across the river from Breckinridge Co., KY., where his brother Leonard lived. Also up in Perry Co., IN were a James and John Wheatley. My Wheatley family moved up to Indiana when land was made available for sale for cash by an act of Congress in 1820. Before that, a person had to be a veteran of either the American Revolution, or the French and Indian War....

There is evidence to suggest that William Whitely, b. 1737, was a lawyer married to Susannah Tyler. We're trying to figure out if William was the son of George and Mary Henry Whitely (Wheatley) married in 1729 in Spotsylvania County. Does this information sound like your Whitely family? Thanks, Therese Hauptmann

There's a genealogy book mostly on the Gilmore family who mentions that their Leonard b. 1765 (brother to Arthur) born 1775 was the son of William Wheatley who served as a spy in the American Revolution. We don't know if that's your William Whitely (son of Robert as mentioned in your website) or William, the son of George. Leonard was pensioned for service in the American Revolution and he stated that he was from Prince William County.
