Sir Simon Montague, the 8th in lineal descent from Drogo, (the
first, of the name in England) married Aufricia, dau. of Fergus,
King of the Isle fo Man, descended from Orry, King of Denmark.
He became in her right King of Man, and both the isle, and the
title as King of the isle, descended to his son and grandson.
Sir Edward Montagu, one of the grandsons of Sir Simon, was a
great warrior of his day, was Governor of the Castle of Werk,
when elected Pope at Rome, and others. Among the descendants of
Philippa Montagu not mentioned above, were the two young
Princes, sons of King Edward IV, smothered in the Tower of
London by order of their Uncle King Richard III.
They were Edward, born in the Sanctuary at Westminster and
proclaimed King Edward V [but never crowned] at the death of his
father, though only eleven years old; and Richard Duke of York,
born at Shrewsbury.
