Barnabas Soule bought a homestead of his elder brother, Cornelius, in 1745 and made that his place of residence ever afterwards. the posthumous daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Stockman) Bradbury of Salisbury, Mass., who was baptized Aug. 4, 1718. She was the younger sister of Dorothy, the wife of Rev. Ammi Ruhama Cutter, and great-grandmother of the distinguished divine, Rev. John Wheelwright. Barnabas and wife were received as members of the First Church Aug. 30, 1742, by public profession, and in September following, he brought his two sons to receive the sacred ordinance. The home of this family became quite a noted place, being situated upon a lofty elevation overlooking Cousins River and the glimmering waters of Casco Bay. See poem relating to this homestead written by Mrs. Ida (Soule) Kahn of Hoquiam, Wash. Mr. Soule died April 8, 1780, aged 75 years and was buried in the Old Cemetery near his home. There were nine children, of whom hereafter.
