He had purchased a tract of land and when he was compelled to
surrender this tract because of the title, he moved to the area
of Indian Town on the Mattapony and was recorded as owner of
Quarles' Warehouse in 1730. He was established on a part of the
plantation on which the warehouse was built and the law required
that the warehouses be built within a mile of a public landing
{Hening Statutes at Large, Vol 1, page 64.}
A record in the Mallory Geneology that John Mallory was born and
reared near where Quarles Warehouse stands (1760) fixes the
Quarles plantation and the Mallory home near each other and
places both within the dividend which was granted Capt. Roger
Mallory {Nat Gen. Soc Quarterly Vol 4 Pages 238, 286, 341}
In 1737, Charles Palmer was appointed an inspector at Quarles
Warehouse replacing Francis West who had resigned {NGSQ vol 4 p
381}
His son James was named in the Commission of Justices in 1739
indicating that John was unable to serve and probably dead.
John Quarles & Jane (Mallory) Quarles resided at the Quarles
Warehouse plantation where they reared their family. Two sons
James & Aaron moved to the Mattapony River Below Walkerton. son
Roger Quarles moved to Caroline Co. VA. Sons Moses and John died
as young men about 1730 in King George Co.
