"1. Was in Fauquier county, VA until 1771.
2. Was in Orange (St. Thomas Parish), VA from 1772-1792. Legend is that Lafayette camped in the yard of the house one day.
3. Purchased land in KY in 1793 from William T. Burris (Pamunkey Neighbors, p. 154); this was probably on 2-mile creek; this was 2 miles from the town of Winchester, KY.
4. Was in Clark, KY 1793-1826. Joseph and Nancy Duncan were "received" on 10 May 1793 by the Howard Creek Church. This church was "moved" from VA to KY in Sep, 1783; town of Holston, near Craig Station. In 1790 the church was called Providence church.
5. Will probated in Clark, KY in Apr, 1826; Will Book 6:126-129. He died at the age of 98 and he was 5'8" in height and weighed 250 pounds.
6. Was a private in the Revolutionary War; pension for service in both VA and Maryland. Warrent issued to Joseph Duncan (22 Dec 1783) for service

9. Some sources indicate that Joseph and Nancy Duncan had 16 children: if this is so, then a daughter named Margaret should be added and there would be two sons named John--one died early and then another son was named John, a common practice to honor the one who died.
10. Date of birth also seen as 1 Jan 1752. [Texas Soc DAR, Roster of Rev. Ancestors, Vol. II, D-H].
11. The date of death given as 25 Mar 1826 is in the records of the Howard Creek Church in Clark co., KY.
12. His middle initial "L" was used by Lewis Duncan, his son and executor of his father's will (Clark co., KY Deed Book 23:145) p. 331, Pamunkey Neighbors of Orange co., VA by Ruth and Sam Sparacio.
