In the History of the Lackawanna Valley we find this record.
"At the court of Quarter Sessions, held at Wilkes-Barre in 1818,
Covington was formed out of a part of Wilkes-Barre". Among the
early settlers mentioned were John Besecker and Jacob Swartz.
mention has also been made in history of Daniel Swartz in
connection with the connecticut Claimants in 1784. He was
attacked by twelve claimants and very much abused, being dragged
out of doors by the hair of his head and his wife suffered
severely also.
