Notes

Aka: or Caspar De Peyster/Pfister, Piester Unknown (Wife).

According to the Newberry Co., SC by George Leland Summer, pgs. 232-238, on the Gray/De Grau & De Walt Families History: When Frederick De Grau came, with his family, to America, he first went to London where many of the German colonists had assembled preparatory to sailing. He appeared at the Court of King George III, in behalf of the colonists and himself to get good passage over and to secure Land Grants in America. It so happened that the Queen of England was Charlotte Mecklenburg, daughter of the German Emporer, and she recognized Frederick De Grau as one of the German officers in her father's guards. Through her influence, therefore, he and some of the colonists were given Land Grants in South Carolina. When they sailed, each lady of the colony was given a calico dress by the Queen. Among the colonists was a De Peyster and his wife, Eve Margaret Egmont, and a small son, Gaspar De Peyster. The dress given Mrs. De Peyster by the Queen was preserved in the family of Mrs. Rebecca Gray De Walt for many years. Mr. De Peyster died on
his way over to America and later the widow married George Gray, Sr., son of Frederick Gray (named changed from De Grau to Gray). She had, also, in her possession silver knee buckles and silver buttons that were worn by Frederick Gray on the occasion of his appearance at the Court of King George III. After the Civil War , during a time of extreme need in the South, the buckles and buttons were converted into silver tea spoons to preserve the metals, as well as to serve a need.

I suppose he was born sometime in 1750, as he was only 2 yrs of age when he came from Germany, with his parents, George and Eve Margaret (Edgemont/Egmont) De Peyster/Pfister, in Sept., 1752 on the ship, Upton.
