"Sarah 'Sally' Stanley Witherington, is listed in the 1843 minutes of the Bethany Baptist Church as the owner of several slaves who worshiped in that church.


H. F. Rudisill 1961: The first Stanley in Darlington apparently was Sands Stanley, whose will was probated in December 1799. His widow was named Zilpha...all of his daughters were then married, except Martha. Salley was the wife of William Witherington, but it is not clear whether Sr or Jr."
