PLATER, Thomas, 1769-1830
"PLATER, Thomas, (son of George Plater), a Representative from
Maryland; born in Annapolis, Md., May 9, 1769; attended the
College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.; studied law; was
admitted to the bar and practiced; served as lieutenant colonel
in the State militia in 1794 for duty during the Whisky
Insurrection; held several local offices; elected as a
Federalist to the Seventh and Eighth Congresses (March 4,
1801-March 3, 1805); resumed the practice of law and resided at
his estate overlooking Georgetown, Md. (now District of
Columbia); moved to Poolesville, Md., where he died May 1,
1830."
