John was a large man, weighed about two thundered pounds and was
six feet high with a stoop in the shoulders.
He had gone, when a young man, to Dr. Walker's smallpox hospital
near Walker's Church in Prince Edward County, and there took the
smallpox by inoculation. He was badly marked by the small pox,
and the marks went with him all his life. He was at the hospital
at the same time with his neighbor, George Christian, and his
wife. Mr Christian came out much more pock marked than he did."
