"Charles Sydnor Cosby, b ca 1794, died of yellow fever, July 1,
1822. Charles Sydnor Cosby was appointed by President Monroe,
Registrar of the United States Land Office, opened at St.
Helena, Louisiana in August 1819. He was a lawyer in Baton
Rouge. After his death, Charles' widow, Barbara, returned to
Louisville and resided with her father, Capt Aaron Fontaine,
until her marriage to John Synal Sanders, formerly of Virginia.
m in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to his cousin, Lucy Hawkins Cosby (b
1796, Elbert Co, Ga) dau of James Overton Cosby and Margaret
McCall. She died giving birth to their only child m2 Barbara
Carr Fontaine, dau of Captain Aaron Fontaine and Barbara
Terrell, and sister of Mary Ann Fontaine, who married Judge
Fortunatus Cosby, of Louisville."
