Thomas Rutledge signed the oath of Allegiance and Abjucation passed by the Assembly at New Bern on Nov 15, 1777, renouncing the authority of the King of Great Brittain over the people of NC. He was a Colonel in the Army appointesd by the Provincial Congress at Halifax, NC on Apr 4, 1776.

WILL:Will, Book A, p 411; Colonial Granvillle Co., and Its People, "The Lost Tribes of N.C. by Worth S. Ray,--will names son Thomas Routledge and step sons James & Edward Pearsall. Land to Son Thomas Routledge on Duck River in Tenn, 1/3 of which belongs to John Dickson, of Cumberland Co., NC. Dr. William Dickson is empowered to sell said land. Grandson Thomas Routledge, son of Thomas and granddaughter, Catherine Routledge, and dau Sarah Leddon. Says he is in his 73 yr. (The grand dau, Catherine must be the dau of another son who may be deceased)

In the will of Christoper Dudley, 1764, Duplin Co., NC, he mentions his dau who is wife of Thomas Rutledge.
