Mother: Elizabeth |
"In July of 1783 Peter Sublett of Powhatan Co. last will. "Being
sick and weak, in his own dwelling house? he did request his
friend Anthony Martin to write his the said Peter's last will?
with which (the said paper hereto annexed being read to him) he
the said Peter Sublet Dec'd himself well satisfyed but departed
this life without duly publishing the same." To carry out his
testamentary intention and to "prevent, Disputes and
Controversies", his heirs on December 1, 1783 entered into
Articles of Agreement under which the will was given legal
effect, as if validly published. By his theoretically abortive
will he gave "to my beloved son Peter Sublett after the death of
my wife the Land I live upon containing by estimation 33 acres
and three negros?" Eighteen other negros he apportioned rather
evenly among "my beloved son[s] William Sublett? John? Benjamin?
and my beloved daughter Mary Merraman."
Item, I give unto my grandson Peter Dutoy Sublett one Boy Bob.
My will and desire is that my Beloved wife Elizabeth Sublett
should have during her life the use of these negros, Tom, Isham,
Jude, Will and Biddy, and the land I hold." The executors were
to be the four sons, Peter, William, John, and Benjamin."
Children

William SUBLETT b: ABT 1750
John SUBLETT b: 1755 in King William Parish, VA , Amelia Co.

County, Va
"On March 23, 1715 there was patented" to Peter Soblet Junior? a
tract containing ninety acres lying and being on the south side
of James River in the County of Henrico? beginning at a corner
hickory standing on the river? It being part of the first five
thousand acres surveyed for the French refugees." It is believed
that he was thus provided for by his father, his mother dying
early, in advance of his father's second marriage. He is not
listed as a thithable until the year 1729, when his father
Pierre Louis Soblet is listed with two tithables, the second one
not being named. In the list of tithables of the parish of King
William for the year 1730, he is bracketed with his father,
Pierre Soblet and Pierre Soblet s. In 1735 the first two appear
separatelely, as Louys Soblet and Piter Soblet. They are
similarly treated in 1736, 1737, and 1738, as Pierre Soblet and
Pierre Soblet.
On Febuary 21, 1744 Peter Soblet Junior of the County of
Goochland sold to Benjamin Harris "one certain tract containing
90 acres? beginning adjacent to the south side of James River
between the two manakan Creeks being granted to the said Peter
Soblet junior by patent bearing Peter Soblet of the same county
95 acres on the south side of the James River adjacent to the
same River?. On December 9, 1748 Dan Ford sold to Peter Soblet
107 acres in the Parish of King William. This seems to have
ended the acreage acquisitions of Peter in this old Manakin Town
area in what ultimately became Powhatan County. He was the only
son of Pierre to stay in this area.
For a while he was the owner of land down in Charlotte Co., Va,
where three of his younger brothers moved, although there is no
particular reason to believe that he ever resided there."
