Notes

"This 'Christopher' was the son of the original CHRISTOPHER who first came to America and mar ried a MARGARET PAYNE JENNINGS...and he was the only son and child of this marriage. The original Chris died in about 1680-8l. Source: KING GEORGE COUNTY WILL BOOK A-I, 1721-52, by George Harrison Sanford King, Fredricksburg, Va., 1978, Pg 102. Also: Last Will of Christopher Edrington, Dec. 30 1737.

Marriage information for Sarah and Nancy taken from MARRIAGES OF SOME VIRGINIA RESIDENT S 1607-1800, by Dorothy Wulfleck, Three volumes, A-H pg 20 and pg 40.
NOTE: On 23 Feb., 1707/8 Christopher Edrington (Ederington) purchased a plantation from a PETER JETT in Sittenbourne Parish, Richmond County. The deal included Christopher's wife, Mary, and his son, Christopher.
Christopher's mother, Margaret Payne Jennings, lost her husband in late l669. If a year of
mourning took place, then her wedding to Christopher Edrington probably took place sometime between l670 and 1672. Christopher's death occurred between the dates of 30 Dec l737 and 2 Feb l738.

CHRISTOPHER EDRINGTON (Sr.) is first found in the records of Old Rappahannock Co. Va. in 1666. Around 1671 he married MARGARET JENNINGS, the widow of John Jennings (by whom she had children John, William, Grace, Jane, Margaret & Honor Jennings). It's believed that Margaret was a dau. of John Payne. Christopher Edrington (Sr.) died around 1678 in Old Rappahannock Co . Va. & Margaret Edrington died around 1684 also in Old Rappahannock Co.
CHRISTOPHER EDRINGTON (II), the only known child of Christopher & Margaret Edrington, was born around 1672 in Sittingbourne Parish, Old Rappahannock Co. Va. He married MARY (possibly PAYTON or JETT). Christopher Edrington (II) died around 1738 in Hanover Parish, King George Co . Va. and Mary Edrington died around 1756 also in Hanover Parish, King George Co. They had the following children:
1. MILDRED EDRINGTON, b. c.1704, m. Francis Triplett.
2. CHRISTOPHER EDRINGTON (III), b. c.1 707/8, m. Mrs. Mary Lovell Harrison.
3. JOHN EDRINGTON, b. c.1710, m. 1st. Mrs. Margaret Pope Higdon, m. 2nd. Mrs. Elizabeth Ambrose O'Bannon.
3. WILLIAM EDRINGTON, b. c.1712, m. Eliza beth "Betty" Helm.
4. MARY EDRINGTON, m. Humphrey Quissenberry.
5. ELIZABETH EDRINGTON, m. Clapham? Richardson.
6. SARAH EDRINGTON, m. 1st. Thomas Ammon, m. 2nd. John Wharton.
7. SUSANNA EDRINGTON, possibly m. John Hailes.
8. HESTER EDRINGTON, b. c.1720, m. 1st. Worden Pope , m. 2nd. Lynaugh Helm.

It's possible that the name Edrington was originally spelled ETHERINGTON in England, as it is also spelled in some records here in the U.S. Almost everyone carrying the EDRINGTON or EDERINGTON name today appears to be a descendant of the immigrant Christopher Edrington. There a lso appear to be some cases where the spelling of the name changed to EDINGTON.
I'd be glad to help anyone trace their Edrington roots. Feel free to contact me at WTCheatham @aol.com Bill Cheatham [par502.FTW]

"The information about this family was taken from Christopher's will which is found in King George County Will Book, A-I, 172l-52. The last will was dated Dec.30 l737.
The Marriage Information for Sarah and Nancy was taken from Marriages of Some Virginia Residents, 1607-1800, by Dorotrhy Wulfleck, three volumes, A-H, pg 20 and pg 40.
