Will of Anthony Thornton, Gentleman of Ormsby, Caroline County,Virginia August 27th 1778. My will is that all my Estate in Orange County be equally divided between my sons Charles Thornton, Peter Thornton, Presley Thornton and Reuben Thornton and in the case either of them should died before they marry or arrive at the age of twenty-one years or without issue lawfully begotten then the whole to be divided amongst the surviving ones and in case of death of the whole, then it is my will that the whole be divided between by four youngest sons, viz: Henry Fitzhugh, William, John and Thomas Griffin Thornton and their heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susannah my whole estate in Caroline County except the legacies hereafter mentioned during her natural life and after her death or in her lifetime as she shall choose to be equally divided between by four sons. I give my son George Thornton the Land he now lives on and one negroe Girl names Rachel.


Item. I give my daughter Buckner one negroe woman called Rose. I give my son Anthony a mourning Ring.


And Lastly I appoint Col. Henry Fitzhugh, my son Anthony Thornton and my beloved wife Susanna Thornton Executors of this my Last will revoking all others before by me made.
