From Gene Key: "John Alfred Key did live in Lancaster County, SC
as early as 1783 as per court records, etc. In the 1790 Census,
there was a Widow Key listed in the Census for Lancaster County
next to John Key. It is very possible she was Mary Clark Key for
in the 1800 Census, this Widow Key was listed as Mary Key. John
Alfred Key moved to Chesterfield County, SC after the 1800
Census and established his family there. I rather believe that
he made that move about 1803. John Alfred Key's son John B. Key
remained in Chesterfield Co., SC all his life and fell heir to
most all of John Alfred's estate and then took care of Anne
Taylor Key after John Alfred's death in 1838. I have a picture
of the home of John Alfred Key which was inherited by John B.
Key. My great grandfather fell heir to this home in 1874 and
then sold it in 1881 before moving to Texas. This home was
almost 1/4 mile East of the present day White Plains Baptist
Church. The Church is on land which belonged to John Alfred Key.
I also believe that John Alfred Key is buried in the cemetery at
White Plains Baptist Church. I also believe that the cemetery
was originally the Key Family Cemetery and that land was given
to the Baptist Church in abt 1855. Thanks to the burning of the
Chesterfield County Court House by the Northern Army, this may
never be established."
