1780 14 October: Washington informs NG he is to command the
Southern Army; Congress approves the appointment 30 October.
1780 27 October: NG confers with Congress in Philadelphia
concerning his new command and the supplying of his army.
1780 3-25 November: En route from Philadelphia to the Southern
Army in North Carolina, NG meets with officials in Delaware,
Maryland, and Virginia.
1780 2 December: NG arrives at Charlotte, N.C., where he remains
with the Southern Army until 20 December.
1780 3 December: General Gates turns over command of the
Southern Army to NG.
1780 16 December: NG decides to split his army; sends Gen.
Daniel Morgan, with some 600 men, to the Carolina backcountry to
threaten British posts. Leslie's troops in Charleston, S.C.,
prepare to join Cornwallis's army at Winnsboro.
1780 2 December: NG orders remainder of the Southern army to a
camp of repose at Haley's Ferry, N.C.
1780 24 December: On arriving at Haley's Ferry, NG decides army
should proceed south to the Cheraws district of South Carolina.
Children:
i. George Washington Greene was born February 1776. George died
28 April 1793 in Mulbery Grove, Georgia, at age 17. No written
record of exactly when and where has ever been discovered. Died
spring of 1793 when a canoe in which he and a friend were
overturned on the savannah River (Georgia) near his parent's
Mulberry Grove Plantation. he Was Either 18 or 19 years old.
Buried first in the Graham Vault on the plantation, in 1901 the
remains of both his father General Green and George W. Greene's
were reinterned next to the Greene Monument in Johnson Square in
Savannah, Georgia.
ii. Martha Washington Greene was born 14 March 1777.
iii. Cornelia Lott Greene was born 23 September 1779.
iv. Nathanael Ray Greene was born January 31, 1780.
v. Louisa Greene was born abt 1783. Louisa died 24 April 1831 at
age 47. Her body was interred 25 April 1831 Dungeness Cumberland
Island Ge. She married James Shaw March 1814. James was born
date unknown died date unknown at age unknown.
vi. Baby (kate) Greene was born circa 1786. Baby died circa 1786
at age unknown.
vii. Catherine Greene was born ? Catherine died circa 1885 at
age unknown.
