"Biographical sketch:Much speculation has been made concerning Uriah Edwards, Sr., and his brothers. From an old letter we learn that he arrived in North America about the year 1735/6 and that he was born in Wales about the year 1714. It goes on to state that he settled in the state of VA., while his brother, Robert went to New York, his other brother, John settled in VA. also (p. 5).

From the County records of Spotsylvania County, VA., Uriah Edwards, Sr., can be placed without a doubt in that county for approximately 30 years, beginning with the first entry in the records in the year 1753. His whereabouts prior to this date is as this writing unknown to the writers of this family history (p. 5).

According to family tradition, Uriah, Robert and John Edwards came to New York some year s prior to the Revolution. Prior to the year 1749, Uriah removed to VA. His brother, John settled in Lancaster County, and his younger brother Robert is thought to have never migrated to the colony of VA. (p. 5).

Uriah Edwards, Sr, was born about the year 1714 in of Surry County, VA. He died in Berkeley Parish, Spotsylvania County, VA 17 Aug 1781. In the year 1749 , he married Mildred Head, the daughter of Henry Head, and his wife, Frances Spence, (Frances Spence was the daughter of Doctor Alexander Spence). Mildred Head Edwards removed to KY. with her children in the year 1789/90, and died in the vicinity of Franklin County, KY in the year 1813 (p. 5).

On the 7th day of June 1792, the land which was purchased from Uriah Edwards, Sr., and h is wife, Mildred Head Edwards, and John Saunders and Jane, his wife, was sold by John Cammack and Ann, his wife, in Berkeley Parish, Spotsylvania County, VA. for the sum of 50 pounds current money of VA., being 84 acres, to Mr . Charles Burrage of the same county and state. This deed was recorded 6 Nov 1792 (p. 5).

Uriah Edwards Will:Spotsylvania County, VA. Court Wills; Book E; p. 404; dated 17 Aug 1781
Married in 1749 in Spotsylvania County, VA to Uriah Edwards ofSpottsylvania County, VA. (born 1714 in Wales, England and died8/?/1781 in Berkeley Parish, Spottsylvania County, VA.) and they had eight children, all born in Spottsylvania County, VA. The children were-
John Edwards (born 8-31-1751) who first married Dolly Gatewood and second married Nancy Brasfield;
Uriah Edwards, Jr. (born 1754);
Rebecca Edwards who married Reuben Hawkins;
Elizabeth Edwards who married Elisha Hawkins;
Mildred Edwards (born 5-21-1762) who marrie dJesse Rosson;
Mary Edwards who married Simeon Edwards?;
Benjamin Edwards who married Elizabeth Braden; and
Moses Edwards (born 1775) who married Lucinda Berry on 12-2-1798 in Franklin County, KY.

Mildred Head Edwards and her children, who were still at home with her in 1789, moved to Woodford County, KY.

WFT Vol 21, Pedigree # 1247 shows the following note for Uriah Edwards:- Married the daughter of Henry Head and Francis Spence; Francis was the daughter of Dr. Alexander Spence. The Last Will and Testament of Uriah Edwards Sr is found on page 404, Will Book "E", Spotsylvania City, VA dated 16 April 1781, and is listed in the official War Records of the American Revolution as having died 17 August 1781."
