McCants families in 1820 Madison County, Illinois Census:
Thompson or Thomas McCants in Goshen
Charles McCants in Goshen
John McCants in Goshen
John McCants in Six Mile
Elias McCants in Greenfield
Elias McCants in Ridge Prairie
They all lived within 25 miles of one another. Some of this
area became Greene County, IL. Both John and Elias purchased
land in Greene County between 1831 and 1839. Need family names
and where they came from. Especially interested in Thompson or
Thomas McCants, since know my husbands gggrandfather was John
McCants born March, 1825 in Illinois and family history states
his father was Thomas William McCants. Thomas in 1820 census,
but not 1830. Think several may have been related because John
later moved to Bates, MO and there are other McCants there that
appear to have migrated from Greene County, IL. An Elias
McCants, born in 1796 in South Carolina, I think is in censuses
for both Greene County, IL and Bates County, IL. The censuses
suggest that the earliest McCants settlers came from either SC,
VA, or KY.
In addition to Thomas McCants looking for:
John McCants, born March, 1825 in IL (any male McCants will be
considered since John may have been his middle name and what he
went by)
William Thomas McCants, born 1853 in IL
Charles C. McCants, born Dec. 21, 1869 in IL
John Silas McCants, born May 28, 1877 in IL
So far have found McCants in Madison, Greene, Macoupin, Hancock,
Shelby, Jersey, Sangamon, and McDonough counties in IL in
1800's. Have found a great many bits and pieces of information,
but nothing that ties much of it together.
We are still looking for information on McCants families in IL.
Especially John McCants born 1825 in IL. Would love any
information someone might have on the McCant's found in the 1820
Census of Madison County, IL, especially Thomas. Additional
McCants in that census are: Elias, John, John, and a Charles.
I have also found the Thomas referred to as Thompson.

It's just came to my attention that Susan Katherine Palmer who
married a ? Thompson in Al. (probably Wilcox Co.) is probably
my gggrandmother. She is listed on the 1850 census of Wilcox
Co., with daughters Catherine, age 14, and my ggrandmother Mary
E., age 8. Her husband was probably dead by then. She later
married a Williamson from that county, thats the reason she has
the name Susan Williamson on the 1900 Escambia County census,
listed as a grandmother to my grandmother Susie Gates. If
anyone can connect her to any Palmers or Thompsons of Alabama,
please email me at: [email protected]. Thanks, Richard

Edmund SINGLETON, Revolutionary War Pensioner, had these
children:
Robert (b.c1797); Thomas (c1801); Jincy(c1803); Overstreet
(c1805).
The one named Overstreet SINGLETON married (between 1820-1830
SC) to Mary Ann THOMPSON, daughter of Flanders THOMPSON, who
also was a Revolutionary War Pensioner. Children of Overstreet
and Mary Ann (THOMPSON) SINGLETON :
Francis M. SINGLETON b. c1830 Rabun Co, Georgia
Wiatt G. " c1835 "
Blewford T. " c1837 "
Henry M. " c1840 "
Mary Ann " c1842 "
John R. " c1844 "
George W. " c1846 "
Overstreet SINGLETON was in Pendleton Dist, SC in 1820. In 1840
he and his family were in Lumpkin Co, GA, and in 1850, Forsyth
Co, GA. At least part of the THOMPSON family went to those same
places. Mary Ann (THOMPSON) SINGLETON's mother was Elizabeth
GREEN, who married 11 June 1781 to Flanders THOMPSON,
Revolutionary War Veteran. (Pensioner). Flanders and Elizabeth
(GREEN) THOMPSON had these children:
Henry THOMPSON b.14 Mar 1782 SC
Leana " "
Joel Green " "
John " "
Flanders " c1800 "
Temperance " c1805 " ("Tempie"?)
Mary Ann " c1814 " m. before 1830 to Overstreet
SINGLETON
Elizabeth? "?? c1807 " (I'm not positive about
Elizabeth)
Flanders THOMPSON's son, also named Flanders, (born c1800 SC),
married Sarah (What was her last name??? Where did they marry?
(probably GA). Flanders Jr. and Sarah (__?__) THOMPSON had
these children:
Waddy THOMPSON (b.1820-1825)
Thomas " 26 Aug 1829 (Note: Need Proof that Thomas was
Flanders'son)
William E. " (1825-1830)
Elizabeth " c1831-1832)
Henry W. " c1834
Mary " c183a7
James " 13 Oct 1835 married Elizabeth ______.
Thomas, above, named a child James Flanders, and one of Thomas'
sons named a son Flanders. Also the name Waddy was used for
sons in Thomas' descendancy. That is why I believe Thomas was
Flander's son, but I need proof. (estate settlement, Family
Bible, or other record?)
If you know anything about any of these THOMPSON or SINGLETON
families, please email me. I would love to work with you, and
exchange records with you.
Hopefully, Jean

Do any of you think this might be OUR William THOMPSON?
HERRING, PEARSON, PIERSON, PREWITT, PRUITT, THOMPSON, TODD
posted by Kent Townsend on Sunday, July 27, 1997 I found the
following record in Ed Tuskaloosa Land Office Records & Military
Warrants 1821 - 1855 by Marilyn Davis Barfield. Chapter 4 and
page 132. Tuscaloosa Land Office Register of Receipts-Ledger 418
Oct. 1836 - Sept. 1859. Date, 9/29/1834. Name of Purchaser:
Elijah THOMPSON & Elizabeth PEARSON. Resides in: Fayette Co.
Sec.: 27. Tsp.: 24. Rng.: 3W. I believe that Elijah THOMPSON is
the son of Elizabeth PEARSON by her first husband, William
THOMPSON. Elizabeth PREWITT, the daughter of Dudley PRUITT of
Union County, SC, married William THOMPSON. They are suppose to
have had twelve children. William was killed around 1817 by a
Creek Indian in the Bibb County, AL area. Elizabeth married a
second time to John PIERSON. They had at least one child. I
believe John PIERSON died sometime before 1830. I believe
Elizabeth PIERSON and Elijah THOMPSON were living with Josiah
THOMPSON in Pickens County, AL in 1830. I believe this Josiah
was also her son. By 1840, Elizabeth PIERSON and Elijah THOMPSON
were living in Choctaw County, MS, where Elijah was listed as
head of the household. By 1850, Elijah had married and had his
own family in Choctaw County, MS. Elizabeth PEARSON lived nearby
as head of a household, with an Ann THOMPSON. I assume this was
either a daughter or daughter-in-law. Also living in the
household were three children with the last name HERRING. I also
believe Elizabeth and her first husband William, had sons named
William and James. And perhaps a daughter named, Sarah THOMPSON
that married Elisha B. TODD. These children were also living in
Choctaw County, MS in 1840 and 1850. Also living there was a son
by Elizabeth's second husband, named William J. PEARSON. I would
like to correspond with anyone having knowledge of these
families. Most of the above is speculation, based purely on
circumstantial evidence. George Thompson Houston, TX
