Coleman wit to will in 1819 Union and Laurens Co. SC. Salem Meeting House, a Methodist Church.

"Claiborne Vaughan [192.1.6] was born about 1775, probably in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He may have been the Claiborne Vaughan who married Mary Ferguson on 19 December 1795 in Prince Edward County. She was born around 1776, the daughter of Richard Ferguson and Frances Spenser. They were listed in the 1800 census in Union County, South Carolina, and soon afterwards they moved to Laurens County, South Carolina. A deed depicts the sale by Claiborne of a four-year-old “Negro child” for $150. Claiborne Vaughan died there in April 1819 and Mary, about four years later. Claiborne had a large estate sold at an auction. Son-in-law Wesley Seymour received a bequest.

The will was witnessed by COLEMAN CARLISLE, a well-known early Methodist minister of Union County. Mary left no will and they sold her remaining property at an auction. Notice of the estate sale was read at Salem Meeting House, a Methodist Church. Evidently the Vaughans were Methodists. Their children, all of whom were born in Laurens County, were the following:"
