Benjamin Washington FAUVER II

BEF 1789 - ____

ID Number: I2233

  • RESIDENCE: SC & 1789 Greene Co. GA & Adams Co. MS & E. Feliciana Par LA
  • BIRTH: BEF 1789
  • RESOURCES: See: [S402] [S1005] [S1009]

Family 1 : Permelia
  1. +Sarah Susan FAUVER

Notes

Benjamin Fauver was the patriarch who led his family from Greene Co. GA to MS above Natchez and then to LA before returning to MS with part of his family.

Benjamin had 7 children, 5 sons and two daus. Atchmit, William, Nathaniel, Benjamin Washington, Littleberry Nelson, Sarah and Priscilla.

Atchmit had 3 sons, Benjamin Washington II, who had ten children including Sarah Susan; William Nelson, who had nine children including my grandfather James Vance Fauver and James Wilson Fauver who died at fourteen.

Benjamin's name appears in Greene Co. GA deed book B and on a series of tax records from 1789 through 1802. He purchased land in Adams Co. MS in 1807, as a resident. Records for 1810 show him on the Adams Co. MS tax rolls and other records for 1810 show him to be a settler in what is now East Feliciana, LA, along with Atchmit who remained in LA after Benjamin went back to MS a bit west of today's Brookhaven. Searching for Benj's origins. Wm D. Fauver 6/12/97.

FAUVER. William Dalrymple Fauver (331 Steele Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806) earnestly seeks information about Banjamin Fauver, his wife Permelia and their predecessors. He was on the Tax Rolls of Greene Co. GA from 1789 through 1802, but family legend gives his 1806 arrival in LA from Edgefield District, SC. The year may be right, but the legend omits his proven stays in GA and MS. Still, the names he gave some of his sons may have a SC flavor; not necessarily in order of birth: Atchmit, Nathaniel, William, Littleberry Nelson and Benjamin Washington. Daughters were named Sarah and Priscilla. Benjamin may have had a sister named Sarah. The surname has been found subject to various spellings.
Will gladly reimburse normal costs for copies and postage.

EAST-FAUVER BIBLE

The Bible of Elizabeth, wife of William East of East Feliciana Parish, La., is now in the possession of a great-great-grandson, Charles E. East, of 1455 Knollwood Drive, Baton Rouge, La. It is a small book printed in 1812, and carries this inscription inside the front cover:
"Elizabeth East her book, Feb. 24th, 1833 Marking (?) Larence County." This may be a reference to Lawrence County, Miss., where some members of the family were living at about that time. She was born Elizabeth Forbes; she was married first to Atcbmit Fauver and second to William East. According to her gravestone, 5 mi. west of Clinton, La., she died September 7, 1862, aged 64 years. Other records give her birth date as "about 1800."

Family 2 : Paul BELL

Notes

Aunt Cloie was great with children. She was a teacher at Vivian, LA public schools. She started teaching at age 18. When I was 4 or 5 my parents went on vacation to Mexico. Aunt Cloie took care of us. we went to her parents home in Mcleod, TX a short distance from Vivian. They had a big farm house, with all kinds of goodies. a storm cellar where it was very cool and filled with food. We all had a grand time in the barn. Dorothy fell and broke her arm. Mama and daddy brought me presents from Mexico. After that my brother and I always had a yen for Mexico.

Aunt Cloie had her children late in life, they were small when Uncle Buck died. Cloie retuned to college to re-qualify as a teacher at Northwestern in Natchioches, LA. She taught at Summer Grove, LA, a Elementary school, in a suburb of Shreveport after graduation.

She was a great cook....she taught me a lot, especially turkey, dressing, hash. Once James and I had a pig left over from 4-H, and Cloie made hogshead cheese. A very long and detailed process, she mixed a lot of love into her cooking and was it good!

Her second marriage was to an old family friend from Vivian. He provided them with a new home in Summer Grove, LA. [S18]
