4. [probably] John Smith . At Caroline County Court, August 1744
, in a petition brought by Thomas Ballard Smith and Francis
Smith executors of the last will and testament of John Smith ,
decd., against William Barkesdale ; judgment is granted against
the defendant. (Caroline County Order Book 1741-6 , page 305.)
The will of John Smith , who certainly died prior to August,
1744 , was not recorded in Caroline County . The will books of
that county are missing, but the order books (from 1732 ) are
preserved and were searched by by the late Creed T. Davis for
this item. Neither is this John Smith 's will in Spotsylvania ,
Essex , Louisa , Middlesex ; nor was it been turned up in any
search made by the late E. P. Valentine .*
2. Thomas Smith , of Louisa County ; will dated March 30, 1795 ;
probated April 10, 1797 ; wife, Tabitha Smith ; son, Thomas
Lilly Smith ; nephew Edward Johnson , son of Edward Johnson ,
deceased; nephew Francis Smith , son of Francis Smith ; nephew
John Smith , son of Parke Smith ; friend Joseph Bickley , son of
Sir. William Bickley , deceased;
executors: Captain George Williamson , Joseph Bickley ,
Granville Smith my brother, and Jacob Williamson , son of Jacob
Williamson, Senior ; Granville Smith and George Williamson
