Seth Purl: Found in 1830 census in Natchez, MS. with 6 males
30-40; one female 15-20; 2 males under five; one male 15-20 and
one male 20-30. Perhaps he had a boarding house. He left
Natchez, settled on Bayou Sara in West Feliciana, LA. (I have
not found this census record).
Seth 1830 Census: one male 50-60; one male 15-20; one female
20-30; one female 15-20; two females 5-10. Infers he had
several daughters; possibly three sons, Joseph, Seth W. & James
L. These 3 sons migrated to Bayou Sara, W. Feliciana Par. LA, a
very active shipping port, and are shown in the 1840 census
there.
"The Purls had property at "Natchez Under the Hill". This
parcel of land has sloughed off into the Mississippi River." I
need to see some original plats to locate this property; deed
records in Adam Co. MS court house. I Have copy of deeds where
Seth Purl and Mary Monroe sold some of this property.
VA.Ohio.........Wh.1830.Seth.PURL... (perhaps this Seth or a
relative?) How do we know, if indeed the father was named Seth,
I really don't think he came South. I think this Seth is in
northern Virginia, now WVA, and Ohio at that time. He is even
listed on one of the censuses of WVA or OH. See this Seth's
record.
Seth PURL I is in Natchez, MS in 1828 of age; Adams County MS
Sexton Records, October 4, 1825 - September 30, 1908, say Seth I
is 21 in 1828 then he would be b in 1807 and could not have had
a son Seth II b abt 1811 KY (age 39 on LA 1850 Census); say
instead that Seth I m. at age 21 and Seth II born 1811, if
father of Seth II and m. in 1810 the age of Seth I b 1789,
living in Natchez in 1828 & on census there in 1830. If Seth I
is also father of Joseph b 1808 in PA, then Seth I would have m.
by 1807 at age 21 so would be born 1786 and lived in PA then KY
then Natchez MS by 1828.
If this is Seth I on 1830 Census Natchez MS: one male 50-60; one
male 15-20; one female 20-30; one female 15-20; two females
5-10. Seth I age 50-60 b 1770/80. say PA where Joseph was
Born, then went to KY between 1808-1811 where Seth II was born.
Infers he had several daughters; (is Joseph a brother? if so
then John Cunningham Purl of MO is too)
Seth Purl II: in 1830 he would now be age 19 if b in 1811: if he
is the Seth Found in 1830 census in Natchez, MS. with 6 males
30-40; one female 15-20; 2 males under five; one male 15-20 and
one male 20-30. Perhaps he had a boarding house. (these two
census Natchez, MS are from my cousins research 50 years ago and
in her book McCants Wall-I have not found these two census
records on the internet yet.)
Joseph Purl b abt 1808 PA: (LA.West.Feliciana..1850.Joseph
1808.PA); d. bet. 1850-1859. owned a steamboat Ellen built in
Louisville, KY in 1846 and enrolled Mar 29, 1849 with owner and
master Joseph Purl of West Feliciana Parish. Joseph m.Elizabeth
Jane Wilson 14 Jun 1831 W. Feliciana.
James S. Purl b abt 1814: m. Permelia Garnhart in 1837. Died
intestate abt 1840-1841. Records show his residence was about
six miles above the mouth of Bayou Sara. A slave, Dick, was
bought at probate sale for $480 by Seth W. Purl. In 1841
Permelia Purl was appointed tutor (guardian) of James S. Purl,
minor. James listed on 1840 census W feliciana p. LA 210 No
Township Listed. She m. Andrew McWilliams in 1842 lived in St.
Mary's Parish, LA. She m. 1st as 2nd wife of James H. Monroe,
of Winchester, Fredricks Co. VA & 1830 Cincinnati, OH & Natchez,
MS & Baton Rouge, LA (Catherine Craig mother of Mary who m. Seth
W. Purl in 1837).
Seth W. Purl b abt 1811 KY: 1840 & 1850 W. Feliciana Parish, LA
census.
shows age 39 b.in KY. he m. Mary M.C. Monroe 7 Jul 1837 W.
Feliciana Parish, LA. Assumed son because of the similarity of
names, compatible ages, and he named a son Cunningham, a family
name. (my grandparents, they lived in Pike Co. MS)
KY.Carroll..1850.John.C..PURL....1825.KY

was a C.S.A. vet, his son Henry Boswell Purl practised dentistry
at Kirksville, Mo. and moved to California.

Seth I wife as Mary M. Monroe and son Seth II m. to unk with dau
Julia Muse Purl. No Seth III. Says came to Kentucky in 1835-36
moved to Bayou Sara. La a few years later came with Joseph and
James had a dispute over property, he then moved to New Orleans,

flawed in several places!)
