Ira E. WILLIAMS

18 Nov 1793 - 11 Nov 1842

ID Number: I30645

  • OCCUPATION: JP in Green Co. MS
  • RESIDENCE: Darlington Co. SC and by 1824 Greene and Hinds Cos. MS
  • BIRTH: 18 Nov 1793
  • DEATH: 11 Nov 1842, Hinds Co. Mississippi
  • BURIAL: Home Place, near Clinton, Hinds Co. MS [157764]
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1028] [S1188] [S1281]

Family 1 : Mary Norwood FORT
  1.  Jared A. WILLIAMS

Notes

"Ira E. and Mary N. Fort Williams came to Mississippi shortly after their marriage. They are in Greene Co., MS in 1824 when Ira E. Williams was elected a Justice of the Peace. Ira E. and Mary Williams' oldest son was named "Jared". possibly son of Jarrett Williams who lived in Darlington Co., in the late 1750's.

Hinds County Cemetery Records also list Ira E. Williams and Mary Fort Williams as being buried on the "home place", which was somewhere near Clinton, Hinds Co., MS., near where the Boy Scout Camp is now. I have never been there and wouldn't know how to get there. Many of the headstones have been taken up.

The Mississippi Genealogical Society has published 20+ volumes of Family & Bible Records. The Fort-Williams Bible is given in one of these volumes. Whomever copied the Bible Record I put in the Mississippi Department of Archives and History did not know how to spell or type. They have Fort listed as "Forte". Sarah is spelled "Dara". There are other numerous typographical errors all through this record. DO NOT try to use it for documentation. In fact, I would be careful using anything from the MGS Family & Bible Records.

Ira E. Williams is as far back as I can go on my Williams line. I have been searching for my Williams ancestry for almost 50 years". Jean Farrar, [email protected]
