Children of Blanche of Lancaster:
John b 1362 died young.
Edward b. 1365, died young
John b befor 4 May 1366, deid young.
Henry son and heir b April 1367.
Philippe b 1360 m. John I, King of Portugal.
Elizabeth m. John de Holand.
Isabel b 1368, died young.
Children by Constance de Castille:
John b 1374, died young.
Katherine b 1372 m. Enriqueill, Rey de Castilla y Leon.
Katherine de Roet, his 3rd wife, was formerly governess to John
of Lancaster's daughters, and then his mistress and by her he
had children, born before marriage. The marriage was ratified
and confirmed during the Great Schism by the Roman Pope,
Boniface IX. Their three sons were legitmised, with the assent
of parliament on 9 Feb 1396/97, the patent confirmed by King
Henry IV on 10 Feb 1406/7, but with a saving clause barring them
from succession to the throne. Their children were given the
name Beaufort from their father's (lost) castle in Champagne
which had devolved on him through his first wife, Blanche of
Lancaster, a descendant of Blanche d'Artois who had purchased
the lordship of Beaufort in 1270.
"By the death, in 1370, of the Black Prince, without issue,
William and Lionel (the next in line being already dead, the
living son and heir of Lionel) became rightfully heir to the
throne, but John of Gaunt the next younger son, defrauded his
dead brother's heir, and had his own son crowned as Henry IV.
Thus originated the feud of the Red and White Roses, which
caused many quarrels, and much loss of life in the royal family
of England, for centuries."
