"moved from South Carolina to Chambers County, Alabama, shortly before 1840 when he was listed in the census as "McCats". He was a physician and a very prosperous landowner. He was shot dead on Sep. 21, 1849 by his servant, John. It is said that John was paid to do the deed by a rival physician. Both are buried in a fenced area at the rear of the Moses Wheat Cemetery. This cemetery is located on a dirt road southwest of Cusseta and northeast of the highway between Lafayette and Opelika-about 15 miles from Lafayette, Alabama."
