Notes

Thomas settled in St. George's Parish, Spotsylvania Co. VA at an early age and purchased at various times from 1727 up to the time of his death large tracts of land in St. George's Parish.

Caroline Co, VA Order Book 1746-54, page 62, 10 Nov, 1752, Thomas states that he is 61 years old.

CONFLICT in wives: One reasearcher believed that Thomas married Ann DAVENPORT while one believed she was Ann CLARK. Thomas was associated with both families. 1704 Quick Rent rolls - a Martin DAVENPORT appears and he appears frequently in Spotsylvania County, VA records. A sum of money is paid Martin DAVENPORT by the estate of Thomas GRAVES in 1784. Also a possibility of two marriages. The first to Sarah DAVENPORT, daughter of William DAVENPORT and Ann Woodruff. The second to Ann Rice CLARK, a widow and daughter of Thomas and Marie Rice.

His widow died in 1782 and their son Rice was administrator of her estate. He had given a negro girl to her grand-daughter, Barbara Pettus, 23 Dec 1772 and another to her grand-daughter, Susannah Spencer, 1 Mar 1776.

"It is also interesting to note that Robert Graves, son of Thomas Graves and Ann Davenport, and descendant of Capt. Thomas Graves of VA (gen. 169), lived on the border of NC and SC, and had a great-grandson, Hardy Graves, born 1824, who moved from GA to AL after 1850

Harrison Graves (1) was born about 1781 in VA. He lived in Clark Co., KY. The name of his first wife is not known. He secondly married Elizabeth Mann on 10 April 1836. She was born in 1804.

It seems likely that this Harrison Graves was descended from Capt. Thomas Graves of VA through a fifth generation descendant, Thomas Graves, born 1691, who married Ann Davenport. The marriage of a daughter of William Bartlett Graves (grandson of Thomas Graves) was witnessed by a Harrison Graves is 1805. Another grandson of Thomas, William Graves, married Judith Harrison in 1779, and could have had a son, Harrison. Many members of this family moved to KY. (R-1)."

(D) Elizabeth Windsor (2nd) m1. Andrews Windsor (dsp) m2. Sir James Ware

The Complete Peerage vol.XIIpII,p797-798. "Edward entertained Queen Elizabeth I in great splendour at Bradenham in 1566, on her return from visiting the University of Oxford. On Edward's death in 1574, Bradenham passed to his eldest son, Frederick. Edward Windsor left instructions for Frederick to build and endow almshouses, for a master and six poor men of the Parish. Strangely this bequest was never executed."
