"In 1676, Samuel Bugg went with Nathaniel Bacon to drive Indians
out of the tidewater area into southern Virginia. Later note
states that Samuel Bugg made friends with these Indians and gave
them a rifle in exchange for land that he could live on as
friends with them. He built a cabin about two and a half miles
west of the Indian Field in a place which became known as China
Grove. Seventy-six years after Samuel Bugg, Sr exchanged a rifle
for China Grove, his grandson, Samuel Bugg III purchased the
Indian Field and other acreage plus 150 acres of the island
across from the Indian Field which is now known as Bugg's
Island" - from the Bugg book"

This is CONFLICTING info on dates of this John and John III the
son of John Hodges of Darlington, SC; shows father as "John F.
Sr., Hodges was born December 01, 1755 in Long Bluff, SC and
died February 10, 1821 in Wilkinson, Ms. This would be my John
Hodges but have never seen an intial F.
