Looking for information on Matthew Via who was married to Sarah Carter and produced an offspring named Mary Frances Via who married Powhatan Bryant in 1865 in Buckingham County. Anyone?

I have been trying to trace the roots of Matthew Via for several years. Mary Frances Via (Born 1840 Died 1920) married Powhatan Bryant in 1865 - they were my great grandparents -her son Edward Cameron was my grandfather, and Earl J. Bryant was my father. I was told all my life that William Via was married to Sarah (Sallie) Via - my father said she was a member of the Carter family that owned Carter's Grove Plantation and that she was disowned by her family because of the marriage - supposedly, Matthew was a Native American. That is what I am trying to research - was he Native American - if so, what tribe and how do I prove the lineage? Any ideas? Also, if I can provide any more information for you, let me know.
