Richard Harris of Hanover Co. received considerable acreage in a
1722 patent; it was a lapsed lease. From Patent Bk. 11:
RICHARD HARRIS of Hanover Co., 2570 acs. (Lapsed L.) New Kent
Co., in St. Peter's Par; beg. on Littlepage's line; down Falling
Cr; adj. Liddall's; Overton's; & Jenings' line; 24 Apr 1722, p.
86. Granted Benjamin Buckley, 26 Oct 1699 upon condition of
seating, &c. Now granted, &c. 5 Lbs., 5 Shill., & Imp. of 31
pers. [named] (Nell Marion Nugent, CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS,
Vol. III [Richmond: Virginia State Library, 1979, second
impression 1986], p. 232)
Although Richard is not indicated in the literature to have been
a son of Robert Harris the immigrant, nor of William Harris,
probable son of Robert the immigrant, because of his association
with Overtons, who were his neighbors, it is likely there is
some familial relationship. William Harris married Temperance
Overton [qv].
Hanover Co. Records: There is some slight evidence that a
Richard Harris was at least a neighbor of Robert Harris of
Hanover Co., who probably is the later Robert
Harris of Louisa Co. and Albemarle Co. Louisa had been formed
from Hanover
Co. In this deed, there appear the names of four Harris males:
Benjamin, grantor; Robert, grantee; and James and Richard
Harris, witnesses. [Hanover Co. court records] p. 15 INDENT. 1
Feb 1733 Benjamin Harris of Hanover Co. to Robert Harris of Co.
afsd; 40 pds. sterling money of England; 256 a. left him by the
last will and Testament of his Father, William Harris, dec'd,
being commonly known by the name of Walkers Neck. /s/ Benjamin
Harris. Wit: Thos. Dickenson, James Harris, Richard Harris. 1
Feb 1733 ack. by Benjamin Harris.
(Rosalie Edith Davis, HANOVER COUNTY, VIRGINIA COURT RECORDS
1733-1735: DEEDS, WILL AND INVENTORIES [Manchester, MO: 1979],
p. 5)
Louisa Co. Records: Louisa Co. had been formed 1742 from Hanover
Co. Richard Harris of Hanover may be the same as Richard
Harris whose name is mentioned in Louisa Co. deeds. DB ? P.
498-499, 28 Aug 1752, Richard Henderson and Elizabeth his wife
of Louisa Co., planter, to John Brook of same .... 100 acres on
N. side of the South Anna River in Fredericksville Par; part of
312 acres bought of
Richard Harris by Lawrence Redman and conveyed to sd.
Henderson...." (It is
believe this is not the same Richard Henderson who was the
probable father of
Samuel Henderson of Granville Co. NC unless Elizabeth is a
previous wife to
Henrietta, the wife Henderson named in his will and who later
deeded her property in Cumberland Co., VA to her three sons.)
Amelia Co. Records: Land Patent Book 21-294: Richard Harris and
Richard Weatherford, 800a, Amelia Co., both sides Flatt Cr.,
bounded by Edward Jones, Watson & the Great Fork (p. 295) 30 Jun
1743.

1-674
(1743)" in MAGAZINE OF VIRGINIA GENEALOGY, Vol. 26, No 3, August
1988, p. 222) "
