Joseph & Mary Shelton Sandridge. Several years ago I was in
Austin, Texas (I live ouside Houston) and found the following in
Loose Papers - Vertical File at the Texas State Library. "Bible
Record of CLAIBORNE & JANE (HIGGINBOTHAM) SANDIDGE of Virginia
and Georgia."
This states how the record came to Texas and has a copy from
Tyler's Quarterly April 1946 and in a handwritten note "(based
on Bible record of John Milton Sandidge attached)".
The Bible record - "John M. Sandidge 7th Jany. 1843. Family
Record."
Claiborne was s/o James Sandidge and Jane Shelton d/o Ralph and
Mary Jane Pollard Shelton.
7 children were listed for James and Jane.
Joseph Sandidge was Claiborne's brother.
From the Tyler's Quarterly - "Joseph lived in Trinity Parish,
Louisa County, Va. He was born about 1760 m. about 1782, and d.
1826. He was a Rev. Soldier in the 6th Va. Regt. He married
Mary Shelton, daughter of William Shelton, of Louisa and Lucy
Harris, and g. daughter of John Shelton and Eleanor Parks, and
of Maj. Robt. Harris and wife Mourning Glenn. ..............."
Joseph named his son, Ralph Shelton Sandidge. Someone wrote in
about this recently and she was correct in saying the only
Joseph Sandidge with a marriage is one to Elizabeth Wright. The
funny thing is that the marriage date is the same for Joseph and
Mary and Joseph and Elizabeth Wright. I am beginning to think
this was a clerical error.
