Mother: Joane LANE |
"Original Parish Register Entries: Taliaferro Family Baptismal
Register, St. Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex " which was sent to me
by another researcher who is now deceased. It reads as follows:
21 December 1614 Joane, daughter of Francis Taliaferro of Myland
Greene, gentleman, 13 days old.
25 January 1615/16 Sara, daughter of Francis Tallefero of Mile
End, yeoman and Bennett his wife, 13 days old.
12 September 1619 Rebecca, daughter of Francis Taliaferoe of
Myleend, yeoman and Bennett his wife, 9 days old.
8 October 1620 Francis, daughter of Francis Taliefero of
Stepney, yeoman and Bennett his wife, 9 days old.
9 January 1621/22 Anne, daughter of Francis Taliafero of
Stepney, yeoman and Bennett his wife being 10 days old.
19 November Robert sonne of Francis Talafero of Bednalls Greene,
yeoman and his wife at 8 days old.
May 1629 Anne daughter of Francis Talafero of Bednall Greene,
yeoman and Bennett (age not illegible).
Did all children die in childhood except Anne and Robert?
Francis Taliaferro b. 1589/90 London, England, baptized 25 Jan
1589/90 at St.Olaves, London, d. 1647, England, buried 19 Aug
1647, Stepney Co., Middlesex, England, m. (1) 3 Feb 1613/14
(license) Bennett Haie, d. aft Nov 1626. Francis was from
Bethnal Green in Stepney, County Middlesex. He fashioned
himself, yeoman. He was mentioned in the wills of his father,
stepfather and brother Ciprion. Francis married secondly to
Mariam who was buried 16 Aug 1647, at Stepney from Bethnal
Green."
"Another story is that three Taliaferro brothers came to
Virginia from England. One died young, never having married; one
was supposed to have left no children by the name of Taliaferro,
but left Craig descendants, he having married a widow Craig,
taking her name for reasons satisfactory to himself and his
elder brother, 1Robert Taliaferro. These two brothers were not
friendly, their families having no communication with one
another, and when they separated they divided some family
jewels. One ring, which they considered a valuable heirloom,
each wanted. They decided the dispute by cutting the ring,
making two complete circles, each taking one. Ex-Governor Smith,
of Georgia, a descendant of 1Robert Taliaferro, is authority for
this story, saying he had seen one of the rings. These two were
1Robert Taliaferro and his brother, who took the name of Craig.
Those who have thoroughly investigated the subject are convinced
that the family were of Norman descent, going to England from
Normandy with William the Conqueror in 1066."
