Written up in "Chilton County and her People" by Thomas Eugene Wyatt in "Oldest Recorded Burial in the County."


Jonathan Clower was a Revolutionary War Vet eran. He enlisted from Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina on 25 May, 1781. He served as a private in Captain Donahoe's company--Colonel Henry Lee's Regiment. He was in Battles at Eutaw Springs and Dorchester and was discharged at Charleston, South Carolina by Col. Lee on 2 May, 1782.


Immediately after the war he went back to Penn. where he lived from 1784-1792 then moved to North Carolina, thence to Georgia and then to Bibb County, Alabama. He was allowed a pension on his application executed while he was living in Bibb County. He d ied in Shelby co. Alabama.


Jonathan's pension was 40.00 per year. Pension #w-22802. The estate of Jonathan Clower was probated in Shelby Co. Alabama in 1838. Andrew Cavanise was appointed as administrator of the estate. Andrew Cavanise married Lurana Bush Clower in Bibb co. Ala. on 23 Jan. 1825 by consent o f her father Jonathan Clower.

Harry Turner, Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography, Volume I, IV--Burgesses and Other Prominent Persons: "son of Colonel Thomas Turner, and Martha Taliaferro, his wife, was a vestryman of Hanover parish, King George county, major of militia, clerk of the county from 1742 to 1751, and member of the house of burgesses from 1742 to 1749. He married Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Colonel Nicholas Smith, of "Smith's Mount," Westmoreland county. He died in 1751."
