"A graduate of Silliman Institue of Clinton, LA.
Charter member of Magee's Creek Lodge #282, Pike Co. MS in 1866; Delegate from Pike Co. to the railroad convention in 1848.to bring NO, Jackson & Great Northern RR (now Illinois Central through MS.
Member of the MS legislature in 1853 and served 3 years.
Thomas Ellzey and Mary Quin with several of their children are buried in Elliott Cem, adjoining their original settlement on Leatherwood.
Masonic Lodges - Pike Co. MS. The first Masonic Lodge in the county was rising Virtue Lodge, No. 7 near Holmesville. and merged with Holmesville Lodge, No. 69 in 1846. The Holmesville Lodge, constructed in 1853-54 was one of the most significant buildings in the county seat. Another lodge in the area was Magee's Creek Lodge, F & A. M. of which Ross A. Ellzey was a charter member in 1866.


Ross A Ellzey served as school commissioner 3rd Dist. 1857. He served as State Representative for Pike Co. MS in 1854.


Oliver Powell & Caroline Quin m. 1838 Pike co. MS, and in the fall of 1850 with their five children left Magnolia MS for the new state of Texas and arrived in Dec 1850 at Danville, Montgomery Co. TX - the next year they moved on 640 acres on the East Fork of Sandy Creek and added other lands totaling more than a thousand acres.


Letter from Franklin M. Quin to Caroline Quin Powell written in Holmesville, Jun 3, 1851 "Dear Brother and sister, he mentions "There is a strong talk of Ross's marrying but I don't know how soon. He has built his home and bot (sic) furniture." Ross is Ross Alanson Ellzey b 1826 d 1907, son of Mary L. Quin (3rd child of Daniel Quin) thus he is the nephew of Franklin M. Quin and Caroline Quin Powell, although three years older than Franklin M. Quin. Ross A. Ellzey married 2 Sep 1852, Amanda Booker."
